What is a Biblical Worldview, and Why Does It Matter?

What is a Biblical Worldview, and Why Does It Matter?

You’ve likely heard the term “Biblical Worldview” mentioned in church or at a Christian school. But what exactly does it mean? In simple terms, a worldview is the framework or "map" that each of us uses to interpret our experiences and the information we encounter in life. It shapes how we view the world and answers life’s big questions, like:

●     Where did I come from?

●     What is the meaning of life?

●     Why am I here?

●     What is right and wrong?

A Biblical Worldview specifically refers to how one answers these profound questions based on what the Bible says. Sounds straightforward, right?

However, a genuine understanding of what constitutes a Biblical Worldview is increasingly rare. According to research by George Barna, this is becoming a significant issue. Barna, the founder of the Barna Group—a leading research organization that studies religion and culture—has found that many Americans no longer hold a Biblical Worldview in its true form. His findings are often cited as a barometer of cultural and religious trends.

What is a Biblical Worldview?

Barna defines a Biblical Worldview as believing in these six key principles:

  1. Absolute moral truth exists.

  2. The Bible is completely accurate in all the principles it teaches.

  3. Satan is a real being or force, not just a symbol.

  4. A person cannot earn their way into Heaven through good deeds.

  5. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on Earth.

  6. God is the all-knowing, all-powerful Creator who still rules the universe today.

The Concerning Trend

Barna’s recent research on American adults shows a worrying decline in those who hold a Biblical Worldview. The percentage dropped from 6% in 2020 to just 4% in 2023, according to his American Worldview Inventory. This downward trend should be a wake-up call for Christian leaders and organizations. It underscores the urgent need for churches and Christian schools to equip their communities with a solid understanding of Biblical truths.

Our Commitment at UBCA

At UBCA, we are fully committed to upholding and affirming a Biblical Worldview, as outlined by Barna. This belief is central to our mission and embraced by our faculty, staff, and board members, who are dedicated to intentionally teaching and modeling these spiritual truths every day. We integrate this worldview into our students’ lives through Bible curriculum, weekly chapel services, and meaningful, ongoing relationships with their teachers.

Parents can rest assured that the spiritual development of every child is at the heart of our mission. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with families in nurturing and guiding the next generation in the truth of God's Word.
